5TH SEPTEMBER 2009 HINDI COMPETITIONS FOLLOWED BY PRIZE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION IN NICKERIE DISTRICT
On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, Hindi competitions in Hindi writing and Bhashan were organized for the Hindi students and teachers in the Nickerie District of Suriname by Mrs. Sandhya Sharma, Hindi teacher ICC, which is 250 Kms. away from Paramaribo. Around 45 Hindi teachers & students took part in the competition. The topic of the Bhashan/speech was "The Role of Bollywood Movies in promotion of Hindi Language". The prize distribution function was organized immediately after the competition and the prizes were distributed by Mrs. Harriet Ramdien, Member of Parliament Nickerie. The programme also included singing of Hindi Bhajans by Mrs. Madhumita Bose, Music Teacher ICC.



BHAJAN WORKSHOP IN ORPHANAGE IN NICKERIE
In the evening a workshop on Bhajans was organized in the Gayatari Anath Ashram in Nickerie District which has around 60 inmates who took part enthusiastically and learnt a few Bhajans taught by Mrs. Madhumita Bose, Vocal Music Teacher ICC. The orphanage is very active and they conduct classes in Hindi language and Indian Music and participate in all the activities of ICC.

6TH SEPTEMBER 2009 BHAJAN WORKSHOP IN A LOCAL TEMPLE IN NICKERIE

A Bhajan workshop was conducted by Mrs. Mudhimita Bose Music teacher ICC at a local temple in Nickerie, where she sang a few Bhajans for the devotees of the Temple. Around 40 people attended the workshop cum performance at the Temple

HINDI COMPETITIONS FOLLOWED BY PRIZE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION IN SARAMACCA DISTRICT

On the occasion of Hindi Diwas Hindi competitions were organized for the local Hindi students and teachers of District Saramacca conducted by Mrs. Sandhya Sharma, Hindi teacher ICC. Hindi competitions in Hindi writing and Bhashan were organized in which around 40 students and teachers participated in the Competition, Subsequently the prize distribution competition was also organized for the winners of the competition of both the categories. The prizes were distributed by Director ICC and Vice-President of local temple where the competition was organized. The programme also included singing of Bhajans by Music Teacher ICC.


6TH SEPTEMBER 2009 INDIAN MOVIE CLUB 'CHALTE CHALTE '

Under the Indian Movie Club screening a Bollywood movie "Chalte Chalte" was shown at a local theatre De Paarl. The 200 Capacity of the auditorium was full for watching the movie. A short documentary on India showing various aspects of Indian economy was also shown.

12TH SEPTEMBER 2009 HINDI COMPETITIONS IN DISTRICT WANICA
On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, Hindi Competitions was organized in District Wanica of Suriname, by Mrs. Sandhya Sharma, Hindi teacher ICC, which has the maximum numbers of voluntary Hindi schools which help in teaching and promoting Hindi language in Suriname. Around 50 Hindi students and teachers participated in the Hindi writing and the Bhashan competitions. Some Hindi poems were also recited by the local students.



13TH SEPTEMBER 2009 HINDI COMPETITIONS IN PARAMARIBO
The last leg of the Hindi competitions was organized in Paramaribo the capital of Suriname by Mrs. Sandhya Sharma, Hindi teacher ICC where more than 50 children participated in the writing and Bhashan competitions. Bhashans on the topic 'The role of Hindi movies in promoting Hindi language in Suriname' were well spoken


14TH SEPTEMBER 2009 CELEBRATION OF HINDI DIWAS
On the occasion of "Hindi Pakhwada", Hindi Diwas was organized at the ICC Paramaribo by Mrs. Sandhya Sharma, Hindi teacher ICC A short cultural programme was also organized which included some Hindi Bhajans and Light Classical Songs and percussion item of Tabla, Nagara and Dholak by the ICC students. The programme also included short lecture on the status of Hindi in Suriname by local eminent Hindi writers and voluntary Hindi teachers. The topics of lectures were 1. Sahitya Samaj ka darpan, 2. Suriname me rachit sahitya Hindi aur Sarnami, 3. Sarnami aur Hindi, Parichay aur sambandh 4. Suriname me
Sarnami aur Hindi Bhasha ki vartman sthiti and also included the difficulties faced by the local Hindi writers in writing Hindi books in Suriname. The programme was followed by a prize distribution function for the winners of Hindi competitions held in district Wanica and Paramaribo. The prizes were distributed by Ambassador KJS Sodhi , Mr. Bholanath Narain, Secretary Suriname Hindi Parishad and Mr. Surjan Parohi, a local eminent poet and secretary of Sahitaya Mitra Sansthan Suriname


16TH SEPTEMBER 2009 FLAVOURS OF ANDHRA PRADESH
A talk on various dishes of (Andhra Pradesh) was given by Mrs. Srinivasulu, of the Embassy. A demonstration was also given for one of the dishes named 'Upma' and coconut chutney during the occasion. Around fifty ladies attended the talk-cum-demonstrations.

18TH SEPTEMBER 2009 INDIAN DRUMS WORKSHOP FOR
CHILDREN


The ICC students of Tabla class led by Mr. Shailendra Madarie, Tabla Teacher ICC conducted a workshop of Tabla for a school children camp organized by Jagaran Mandal a local social and cultural organization engaged in promoting Indian Culture in Suriname. The workshop was attended by around 60 children of the age group of 8 to 16 years.






18TH AND 19TH SEPTEMBER 2009 DRAWING/PAINTING WORKSHOP FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN

A two day drawing/painting workshop was organized by the local painter Mr. Randjan Akloe for the 60 school children where he taught painting of names and some symbols on white T-Shirts to the students. Workshop was organized by the ICC in collaboration with the Jagaran Mandal a local social and cultural organization engaged in promoting Indian Culture in Suriname.





19TH SEPTEMBER 2009 INDIAN VOCAL MUSIC WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN




A Vocal Music workshop was conducted by Mrs. Madhumita Bose, Vocal Music Teacher ICC for the 60 school children gathered for the day camp organized by Jagaran Mandal a local social and cultural organization engaged in promoting Indian Culture in Suriname. Some light classical songs including a song on Suriname were performed and taught to the children.





20TH SEPTEMBER 2009A. KATHAK DANCE WORKSHOP FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN

A Kathak Dance Workshop was conducted by the dance students of ICC led by Mrs. Manjusha Sarvesh Joshi, the Kathak Dance Teacher of ICC. Few semi classical dances and basic steps were taught to the local children who learnt it interestingly. Around 70 children including boys learnt and understood the dance form of India.



20TH SEPTEMBER 2009 TALK ON BAALKHAND RAMAYAN
The ICC has been receiving requests from various Pandits of local Hindu Temples and the Hindi Teachers of Suriname to conduct workshops on Ramayana where its proper reading of Ramayana, especially the pronouncing of the words and to learn its meaning could be taught. This was necessary to enable them properly read Ramayana during the daily functions in temples and other religious gatherings. Accordingly the first workshop under the series of "Talk on Ramayana" was started and conducted by the Mrs. Sandhya Sharma , Hindi Teacher ICC. The Music Teacher ICC Mrs. Madhumita Bose also participated in the workshop by singing the correct style of Ramayana, Chaupaiyan.

25TH SEPTEMBER 2009 ITEC DAY CELEBRATIONS
ITEC day was celebrated at the Embassy of India, where some ITEC trainees gave their experiences during the programme in India. They appreciated the role of Embassy of India and the local host technical training institutions in India where they undertook training. The Embassy of India in Paramaribo has 35 slots for Suriname under the ITEC scheme. Many of the trainees sent in the previous years have been benefited by the courses undertaken by them in India. A short cultural programme of Dance and Music was presented by the ICC students. A power point presentation on the various ITEC scheme and its background was given by Mrs. Bhawna Saxena Attaché (Admin) of the Embassy. Ambassador KJS Sodhi on this occasion requested Surinamese citizens to take advantages of the scheme and upgrade their skills for the benefit and development of Suriname. Mr. Soetosenop permanent Secretary of Education was the chief guest in the programme.


27TH TO 29TH SEPTEMBER 2009 YOGA WORKSHOP AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ARYA DIWAKARS

A three day Yoga workshop was conducted at the International conference of Arya
Diwakars by Mr. Prahalad Singh Chahar, Yoga Teacher ICC. The conference was
organized at the local headquarter of Arya Diwakar Mandir. More than 70 people from various countries attended the early morning Yoga workshop/classes where some Yoga Asnas and Meditation were performed, under the guidance and supervision of Yoga Teacher ICC and students .



30TH SEPTEMBER 2009 EK SHAAM MUKESH KE NAAM

An Evening of Music was organized at the Indian Cultural Centre by the ICC students led by Mrs. Madhumita Bose, Music Teacher ICC where tributes were paid to the popular Bollywood singer Mukesh. Around 20 ICC students sang various popular hits of the veteran singer of Bollywood movies. The students were trained by the Music Teacher in regard to the pronouncing of words and the style of the singing. Around 200 people attended the programme. Last month we had organized a similar programme on Mohammad Rafi which was also very well received by the audience




4, 11, & 18th September, 2009 MEDITATION COURSE



As part of its ongoing activities, weekly special yoga classes on meditation were conducted at ICC Yoga Hall by Mr. Prahalad Singh Chahar, Yoga Teacher, ICC. This month a special focus was made on the energy balancing through it various stages during meditation In these classes, topics such as re-arranging the mind, self suggestions to the mind, focusing the mind and sciences of soul were taught. These special classes were attended by nearly 60 participants.






8, 15, 22, & 29th September 2009 YOGA TEACHERS TRAINING
Weekly Yoga Teachers Training course was conducted by Mr. Prahalad Singh Chahar, yoga teacher, ICC, to the senior yoga students of ICC who run their own institutes and teach yoga to local students. In the classes, Vivakkhyati and Prajana were taught to the participants with introduction of Hatha yoga asanas like Pavanmuktasana, Uttanpadasana, Ardha Halasana, Niralamvasana etc. Pranayama practice was also introduced to the participants.
