01.11.2009 INDIAN MOVIE CLUB - BOLLYWOOD MOVIE "KOI MIL GAYA"
Under the India Movie Club, screening of Indian Bollywood Movies, this month "Koi Mil Gaya" was screened at the local air-conditioned Threatre Paarl Movies, Suit, J.A. Pengelstraat, Paramaribo. Around 200 people watched the movie. The movie club has now become very popular among Surinamese people and has become a source of family entertainment.
03.11.2009 INAUGURATION OF TRAINING PROGRAMME TO PREVENT SUICIDE THROUGH YOGA IN COLLABORATION WITH MINISTRY OF HEALTH
A training programme to prevent Suicide through Yoga and meditation in collaboration with the Ministry of Health was inaugurated by the Ambassador of India, H.E Shri KJS Sodhi, Permanent Secretary, Minister of Health, Drs. M. Eersel, Director, Ministry of Health, Drs. L. Resida & Director, ICC, Shri Y.L. Rao. Around 50 doctors', medical students, nurses, physicians, psychologist, social workers are attending the programme and the certificate of completion will be issued by the Ministry of Health and the Indian Cultural Centre. For the counsellor who will work in the field to consult and help the suicidal tendency of local Suriname Citizen. The training for above said is conducted every Thursday, 7.00 to 9.00 p.m. at ICC.
06 & 20.11.2009 TALK ON RAMAYANA
A talk on Ramayana was delivered by Hindi Teacher of ICC, Mrs. Sandhya Sharma. Around 40 students and Pandits attended the programme which was accompanied by vocal singing of the verses by Vocal Music
Teacher of ICC, Mrs. Madhumita Bose. Chaupaiyan's, Ram Bhajans and Doha's were also recited. Short stories on moral values were held to propagate good values.
12.11.2009 COSTUME & HAIR DRESSING WORKSHOP
A costume & hair dressing workshop was held by Mrs. Manjusha Sarvesh Joshi, Kathak Dance Teacher, ICC. The students were taught how to wear the different styles of Dupatta (shawl) & suitable hair style according to different types of dances. It will help them especially while performing different dance style on stage.
17.11.2009 FLAVOUR OF UTTAR PRADESH
An Indian dish " Shahi Tukra " was prepared and demonstrated at the monthly cookery class organised at the Indian Cultural Centre. Around 40 ladies attended and followed the demonstration enthusiastically.
19.11.2009 QUAMI EKTA DIWAS (NATIONAL INTEGRATION DAY)
Quami Ekta Diwas was organised on 19th November 2009 at the Centre's Yoga Hall. A speech was given and a self written poem was recited by Mrs. Sandhya Sharma, Hindi Teacher, ICC, followed by a musical programme of two hours in which patriotic songs were sung by ICC's Vocal Music students. The programme was very well appreciated by the audience
22.11.2009 PANEL DISCUSSION ON 'NOISE POLLUTION' AT ICC
A panel discussion on 'Noise Pollution' was held at ICC's Yoga Hall on Sunday, 22nd November 2009. The three panel members were Dr. Sharman, Prof. Mr. Oostburg & Mrs. Mangré and the speaker of the panel discussion was Mr. Suky Akkal. It was followed by a question - answer session. The programme was held in collaboration with Sahitya Mitra Sansthan on completion of 8 years of its foundation. Pandita (Mrs.) Sushila Baldew - Malhoe, Secretary of Sahitya Mitra Sanstha gave a brief description of aims of Sahitya Mitra Sanstha and work done by the members. Speech by Ambassador, KJS Sodhi, was also given on this occasion. Around 75 people attended this function. Following are some photographs
24.11.2009 DANCE PERFORMANCE AT SHANTI BHAWAN, DISTRICT WANICA
On the occasion of the Independence Day of Suriname, a dance performance was organized by the ICC and programme was arranged by Parliamentarian, Mr. Randjietsingh, which was held at Shanti Bhawan, District Wanica. Around 15 ICC students performed different dance styles like classical (Ganesh Stuthi) performed by the Junior students, a traditional Rajasthani Dance by senior class students and a mythological Dance (Krishna & Radhna) performed by beginner class students. At the end of the performance a patriotic dance was performed by all the students specially based on the Independence Day of Suriname. The function was graced by Vice-President of Suriname, Mr. Ramdien Sardjoe, Minister of Justice and Police, Mr. Chandrikapersad Santokhi, Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Mauritz Hassankhan & Minister of Agriculture, Husbandry & Fishery, Mr. Keremchand Raghoebarsingh and around 200 local citizens attended the performance. Mr. Ramdien Sardjoe acknowledged that ICC is promoting and keeping Indian culture alive in Suriname. And the continuing contributions are making cultural relations happier Suriname and India. The performance was well appreciated by the audience.
25.11.2009 INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS AT NETA DAL HINDI SCHOOL
Independence day of Suriname was celebrated at the the Neta Dal Hindi School in which four Hindi Plays were dramatised by Hindi students of ICC and Neta Dal Hindi School, Wanica. Drawing
Competition was also organised by ICC on this occasion. Around 35 students participated in the competition.
26.11.2009 KAVI SAMMELAN IN MEMORY OF HARIVANSH RAI BACHCHAN
A Kavi Sammelan in memory of Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan was organised by Mrs. Sandhya Sharma, Hindi Teacher, ICC. A speech on the life of Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan was given by Mrs. Bhawna Saxena, Attaché (Hindi & Culture). A poem of Dr. H.R. Bachchan including 'Madhushala' was also recited by students and Staff of ICC & Embassy. Mrs. Sandhya Sharma gave a brief description of Literature & Poetry of Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan. On this occasion the Vocal Music students led by Mrs. Madhumita Bose, Vocal Music Teacher, ICC and Mr.Shailendra Madarie,Tabla Teacher,ICC sang the Saraswati Vandana. Head of Chancery, Shri Arun Kumar Sharma, President Suriname Hindi Parishad, Shri H. Jankipersadsing, Secretary Suriname Hindi Parishad, Shri Bholanath Narain, Pt. Balram Patandin, Head of Examination Committee Suriname Hindi Parishad, Dr. Naraindutt Gangaram Panday, Pt. Harridew Sahtoe & many famous writers & poets of Suriname graced the occasion. Around 150 people attended the ceremony.

SHANKAR'S INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S PAINTING COMPETITION 2009 - 2010 IN PARAMARIBO AND WANICA
A programme for Shankar's International Children's Drawing and Painting Competition was held at a local school in District Wanica as well as at the ICC's Dance Hall on Sunday, 29th November 2009. More than 200 students participated in the competition at Paramaribo and at District Wanica.
29.11.2009 HINDI WORKSHOP
A Hindi workshop was conducted for the voluntary Hindi Teachers of various districts of Suriname by the Hindi Teacher of ICC, Mrs. Sandhya Sharma. Grammar lessons were taught with the help of charts. Some new techniques were introduced to make Hindi teaching effective & interesting. More than 30 teachers of various voluntary Hindi schools located at various districts in Suriname attended the workshop.

Five sessions of the Yoga Teachers Training course are conducted at the Yoga Niketarn 6.00 to 7.30 a.m. on every Sunday of the month. The theory classes of the same are being conducted every Monday of the month from 7.00 to 9.00 p.m. at ICC. 20 local yoga teachers are participating in this course primarily to up date and enhance their skills in yoga as well as to be able to impart good knowledge to their students. Out of 20, seven teachers are teaching yoga in their schools to approximately 200 students. This course is running in the last stage in which the teachers are being trained learn the basic techniques of Dharana (concentration) Dhiyana (Meditation) for e.g. in the last class OM chanting and theory and practical on OM meditation was taught.
Keeping in mind that Yoga can give a better impact and effect if it's practiced in the morning, we conducted five practical sessions at Yoga Niketarn. Advanced techniques of meditation as well as chanting of mantras were also taught to the students and it was well appreciated.
