HINDI WORKSHOP IN PARAMARIBO

A Hindi workshop was conducted by Mrs. Sandhya Sharma, Hindi Teacher, ICC on Sunday 3rd May 2009 between 1000 to 1300 hrs. Fundamentals of grammar and techniques of teaching the grammar were taught to the 40 voluntary Hindi teachers of Paramaribo, Wanica, Saramacca and Commewijne. On this occasion Hindi certificates for the students who passed Hindi examinations were presented by Ambassador Kanwaljit Singh Sodhi and Mr. Pramsoekh of Suriname Hindi Parishad. Shri Bholanath Narain, Secretary, Suriname Hindi Parishad also attended the first session of the Hindi workshop. The workshop was followed by an interaction with the 40 voluntary Hindi Teachers. INDIAN DANCE COMPETITION Ist ROUND

The Indian dance competition ' Payal ki Jhankaar ' was organised on Saturday, 16th May 2009 at the Indian Cultural Centre in two categories. For 1st Category (11-16 years) and 2nd Category (17-25
years) 14 dancers each took part in the competition. 10 Dancers in each of the said category were chosen for the second round. The theme for Category I was semi-classical songs while for Category II seniors was Cultures of India (Folk). The judges for the competition were Mrs. Manjit Sodhi, wife of the Ambassador, Mrs. Madhoerie Jagmohan, local Bharatanatyam Dancer, Mr. Shailendra Madarie, Tabla Teacher & Mrs. Manjusha Sarvesh Joshi, Kathak dance Teacher. The 2nd round of dance competition will be held on Saturday, 13th June 2009 at a local auditorium CCS and final will be held on the 3rd July 2009 at the prestigious and only air-conditioned theatre Thalia. The programme has been recorded by a local TV Channel RTV and is being telecasted regularly. Following are some photographs: _

MEHNDI WORKSHOP

A mehndi workshop was organised at the Indian Cultural Centre for the wives of the CISM Conference members (Conference of International Military Sports). Around 40 wives and an equal number of local women attended the workshop. The workshop was conducted under the supervision of Mrs. Manjit Sodhi, wife of the Ambassador, Mrs. Manjusha Sarvesh Joshi, Kathak Dance Teacher and some local volunteers helped in putting the Mehndi. Mrs. Manjit Sodhi thanked the ladies who came from various countries and enjoyed the programme. Mrs. Mathoera, Dy Police Commissioner, Paramaribo was the local co-ordinator of the delegation.

CULTURAL PROGRAMME FOR DELEGATES AT CONFERENCE FOR INTERNATIONAL
MILITARY SPORTS
A cultural programme was presented by the ICC's Vocal Music, Tabla and Kathak Dance students to the delegates at the Conference for international Military Sports. Nearly 250 delegates and officials from 84 countries watched the performance. The programme consisted of some bhojpuri folk, semi-classical songs and dances. HINDI WORKSHOP AND CULTURAL PROGRAMME AT DISTRICT SARAMACCA

A Hindi workshop was conducted for the local Hindi teachers and Hindi students by Mrs. Sandhya Sharma, Hindi Teacher, ICC. Some techniques of Hindi grammar, teaching and some lessons from Hindi text books published by Embassy of India, for Hindi teaching in Suriname were also taught. Around 30 students and teachers of Saramacca attended the programme.

The workshop was followed by a cultural programme of Kathak, Vocal Music, Tabla Percussion and Yoga by the ICC students to mark the 136th Year of Indian Arrival Day in Suriname. The ICC has for the first time put up the full cultural show in Saramacca. Before the programme Ambassador Kanwaljit Singh Sodhi and Mrs. Mandrachal Ghisaidoebe, District Commissioner Saramacca paid tributes at the monument of the Lalla Rookh ship which brought the first batch of Indian Immigrants to Suriname. Around 300 people attended the Cultural programme which included distribution of Hindi Certificates to the Hindi students of Saramacca who passed the Hindi exams in Prathma and Madhyama. The certificates were given away by Ambassador Kanwaljit Singh Sodhi, Mrs. Mandrachal Ghisaidoebe, DC Saramacca and Mr. Mahinder Jogi, local member of Parliament. Following are some photographs : _

LECTURE ON WOMEN RELATED HEALTH PROBLEMS

A lecture on women related health problems was delivered by a local eminent gynecologist Dr. Malti Sietaram who is working at Diakonessen Hospital (Government owned). Around 40 women students of ICC attended the lecture which was followed by a question answer session. Dr.(Mrs.) Sietaram also gave a power-point presentation wherein she described the women related problems, precautions and cures for such problems.

CULTURAL AND FASHION SHOW AT THE INDIAN CULTURAL CENTRE

A Cultural programme depicting Indian marriage and a fashion show presented by ICC students for the members of the Diplomatic Ladies group when they visited ICC, Paramaribo on Friday, 29th may 2009. The show was choreographed Ms. Jasmine Singh, a fashion designer. The programme was widely appreciated by the members of the Diplomatic Ladies Club. Around fifteen ICC students acted as models for the fashion show. Following are some photographs: _
