About ICC
The Indian Cultural Centre, Paramaribo was set up in 1978. The Centre functions under the overall supervision of the Embassy of India and is headed by a Director. At present Mr.Sunil Bhalla is the Director of the Centre.
The main objectives of ICC are as under :_
· To promote Indian Culture in its widest sense in Suriname by imparting knowledge in various art forms i.e. Hindi, Vocal Music, Dance, Tabla, Yoga.
· To achieve cultural co-operation through various activities.
· To foster closer links between India and Suriname through Cultural Exchanges.
Activities
The Centre has steadily increased its activities and focused on the following activities:
-Interaction and co-operation with Surinamese Cultural & Academic Institutions, Schools and libraries. Centre has sought encouragement, advice & support from them for cultural cooperation between India and Suriname
-Offering its in-house activities comprising of Dance, Vocal Music, Tabla, Yoga, Hindi teaching..Workshops and lecture demonstrations as well as regular classes in these disciplines.
The Centre has 4(four) India-based & 1(one) local Teacher(s) to impart training in various art forms.
These professional teachers also participate in cultural events organized by the Centre and the Embassy of India.
The Centre also organizes programmes to observe important dates and events
in the Indian Calendar.These programmes are open to all interested viewers .
