WEEKLY YOGA WORKSHOP ON MEDITATION

A weekly special yoga class on meditation was conducted by Mr. Prahalad Singh Chahar, Yoga Teacher, ICC, on Friday, 3rd April 2009 at ICC. The second stage of meditation was taught to the students. This involves practising meditation at a level where the frequency of regular thoughts are reduced. The special classes have benefited 57 - 60 people. Following are some photographs: _

WORKSHOP-CUM-SEMINAR ON HATHA YOGA & ART OF LIVING

A Yoga workshop - cum - Seminar on Hatha Yoga and Art of Living was held at the Centre's Yoga hall on Saturday, 11th April 2009. The programme consisted of a power-point presentation, demonstration of asanas and interaction. The purpose of conducting this seminar was to bring out the benefits of both kinds of Yoga, which help to bring the balance in stressful day to day life. The knowledge will bring about the physical and mental energy balance, enlightenment and self-realization for the spiritual seers. Hatha Yoga was conducted by Ms. Usha Gopi, senior Yoga student of ICC under the guidance of ICC teacher Mr. Prahalad Singh Chahar. Art of Living was conducted by Mr. Ashok. The moderator of the seminar was Mr. Prahalad Singh Chahar, Yoga Teacher, ICC. Chairman, two members of the board of Art of Living & Ambassador Shri Kanwaljit Singh Sodhi attended the meeting. Y.L. Rao, Director, ICC, thanked the teacher, students and distinguished guests who attended the workshop. Following are some photographs: _

AUDITIONS FOR ' PAYAL KI JHANKAAR ' - INDIAN DANCE COMPETITION 2009

Due to overwhelming response for the first dance competition Payal Ki Jhankaar 2008 which was organized during March/ April 2008. Now ICC is holding the next dance competition Payal Ki Jhankaar 2009 an Indian Dance Competition based on classical dances like (Kathak, Bharatanatyam) Bollywood Songs based on (Folk, Semi-Classical) or Private Album(traditional) in July 2009. The preliminary round/ audition test took place at ICC on Saturday, 18th & Sunday, 19th April 2009. Around 40 dancers in both the categories took part in the competition. The competition will be held in two categories i.e. Category - I : 11-16 years & Category - II : 17 - 25 years. The programme was judged by local prominent dancers and the dance teacher of ICC, Mrs. Manjusha Sarvesh Joshi. The finale of the competition is expected to be held in July 2009 at Theatre Thalia. Local TV Channel RTV Channel 38 is covering the programme and will be telecasting the recorded show. Following are some photographs: _

COOKERY CLASS ON PREPARATIONS OF ' DAL BARA & COCONUT KI CHUTNEY '

Cookery class was conducted by Mrs. Manjit Sodhi, wife of Ambassador & our Centre's teachers. Preparation of ' Dal Bara & Coconut Ki Chutney ' was demonstrated. Fifty ladies attended the demonstration. Following are some photographs: _

HINDI WORKSHOP - CUM - CULTURAL PROGRAMME AT DISTRICT WANICA

On Sunday, 26th April 2009 the Indian Cultural Centre organised a Hindi Workshop at the Shiv Mandir, Welgedacht B weg, District Wanica. A Hindi Workshop was organised for Hindi Teachers and students of district Wanica which was conducted by Mrs. Sandhya Sharma, Hindi Teacher, ICC. Simple techniques of teaching Hindi through preparation of charts and small placards were shown to the teachers and the students. Around 12 teachers and 60 Hindi students attended the workshop. Some questions regarding grammar were put up to the teacher which were answered satisfactorily. The workshop
was conducted for one hour from 1030 hrs. to 1130 hrs. This was followed by a cultural programme of Kathak dance, Vocal Music, Yoga and Tabla percussion by the ICC students. The programme also included distribution of Hindi certificates to 20 students who passed their Hindi examinations conducted by the Suriname Hindi Parishad.

The certificates were presented to the Hindi students by Minister of Justice & Police Mr. Chandrikapersad Santokhi, Ambassador of India, Shri Kanwaljit Singh Sodhi and former Minister, Mr. Randjietsingh. The Cultural Programme was of 1½ hour and was organised with the objective to showcase the activities of the ICC to the local population and the nearby villages in Wanica. More than 300 people attended and enjoyed the programme. Around 40 ICC students participated in the programme.
Wanica has the maximum number of Hindi schools and maximum number of Hindi students which are coordinated and promoted by Mr. B. Nandpersad, a voluntary local Hindi teacher. Mr. Nandpersad also coordinated in the Hindi Workshop followed by the cultural programme at Wanica which was very successful and well appreciated. This was the first time that the ICC gave a full fledge programme at this place. Following are some photographs: _

INTERACTION OF ICC STUDENTS WITH BOLLYWOOD SINGH KUNAL GANJAWALA

An interaction of ICC Vocal Music students was arranged with the visiting popular background singer Kunal Ganjawala from India on Thursday, April 30th at the residence of the Ambassador. Ms. Sanchita Bhattacharya, winner of SAREGAMAPA Little Champs, Mr. Vishal of Indian Idols was also present in the group. Some songs were presented by the Vocal Music students.
