On the occasion of the 136th Immigration Day Celebrations of Indian Arrival Day in Suriname, the Indian Cultural Centre, Embassy of India in collaboration with Cultural Union Suriname (CUS) and the National Foundation for Indian Immigration(Lalla Rookh) is organising following events :_
(a) ' Unity of Colours ' Painting Exhibitions
Unity of Colours - a multi-ethnic exhibition of paintings and sculptures by five Surinamese artists viz., Mr. George Ramjiawansingh, Mr. Anand Binda, Mr. Soeki Irodikromo, Mr. Krishna Persad Khedoe and Mr. Erwin De Vries and one painter, Prof. R.K. Bhatnagar at the National Foundation for Indian Immigration (Lalla Rookh).
The exhibition will be inaugurated by H.E. Mr. Ramdien Sardjoe, Vice-President of Suriname on 4th June 2009 from 1900 to 2100 hrs. The programme will include a short multi-ethnic cultural programme of dance & music by Nationale Volksmuziek School, Dance School Madhoerie, Sana Budaya and ICC which will be, followed by the inauguration of the exhibition.
From 5th to 11th June 2009 the exhibition will remain open from 1000 to 1300 hrs. and 1800 to 2130 hrs.
(b) Vocal Music Group from India
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations is sponsoring Dr. (Mrs.) Kumud Diwan, a semi-classical singer, from India for giving performances and lecture demonstration in Suriname. She is accompanied by three members to play Tabla, Harmonium and Sarangi. She has a repertoire of Lucknow and Banaras Thumris, she sings with equal ease in Bhojpuri, Braj Bhasha and Awadhi, dialects which are spoken in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, in which most lyrics of Thumri have been written.
